About Me

I'm a serious reader. I'm especially fond of children's lit.
And the dictionary.

Also, I am a Texas mother, daughter, wife and sister.  Not necessarily in that order.  At least, not chronologically.

I would love to own bees and be called "Bonnie the beekeeper".  I would share my honey with my dad who introduced me to its deliciousness at a young age.  I particularly remember him giving me a sampler pack of different kinds of honey in a giant plastic tube shaped like a candy cane for Christmas.  He also gave me a giant, handmade Annie doll one Christmas that he bought from a lady selling them on the side of the road.  Used to, you could buy some real great stuff from people on the side of the road.  I think the government ran them off.

I have gardens in the front of my house which my whole family, (especially the strong, diligent, never complaining about how mom needs to stop coming up with projects boys) labored to install over the years.  The veggies are fenced in to keep out uninvited wildlife.  And animals.  Don't tell my husband who generously sweat his head off building all that (see post "Sweat is good"), but I still prefer my flower gardens. I inherited my love and knowledge of flowers from my mother, and have tried to add to it.  One of her favorite pieces of gardening advice that I try to follow is, "Cut it back".  Another favorite is, "If you don't like it, pull it up and plant something else."   She's ruthless in the garden, and hers looks fantastic!

I enjoy cooking, but these days, my priorities don't allow for much creativity in the kitchen.  So, we have some regular favorites that make an appearance once every two weeks or so, and a sprinkling of prepared foods delight us a couple a days a week.  (ie - fish sticks and mac n cheese)  My 13 year old daughter is working her way to head chef, as the oldest daughter has already achieved this title.  The youngest girls are already "helping" too. (read: mixing and spilling)  I'm trying to work myself out of the job.  When I'm old and want pie, someone has to make it.  I'll be too busy reading to grandkids.
